Supplies:
Penny
Plastic water bottle
Steps:
Poke a hole in the bottle cap with a pencil
Slowly add water drops onto the penny
Count how many drops you can get onto the penny before they roll off!
Concepts learnt:
Basic properties of water: cohesion, adhesion, and surface tension
Water striders are able to effortlessly glide across surfaces of water because of the water's unique properties
-
Supplies:
Ice cube
Steps:
Leave the ice cube out, and watch it melt
Think about why ice melts
Concepts learnt:
Definition of exothermic and endothermic energy
Many phenomena that occur around us can be attributed to exothermic and endothermic reactions
-
Supplies:
Water
Oil
Steps:
Mix equal amounts of water and oil in a cup
Observe what happens to the oil and water after mixing
Concepts learnt:
Polarity of molecules
Definition of emulsion
